Could Our Lives Be Different

  • Do you often dream of a different life or look at your reflection and want to be someone else?
  • Find that you have a lot of thoughts and ideas, but rarely implement or action them?
  • Are you often repeating your mistakes even though you know you a better way?

For many we are aware that having a vision, goals and a plan of action will light up our path to success. Why is that we know what is good for us, the healthy choices and what we need to do to succeed but so few of us follow through?

We are often aware of our flaws and mistakes; the next step is to become aware of our thoughts and emotions. Often, we are aware of what is good for us but fail to act, we need to take another step in the process. We need to reflect on our decisions and the choices we make – both the immediate and long-term ones. By doing so we give ourselves a chance to change.

Reflection

There is only a chance of change as reflection is not a one-off event or the flipping of switch. Some new year resolutions succeed but the majority fail because changing our behaviour and habits takes time, discipline and reflection.

Reflecting is a skill, we need to actively practice to get better. Reflection has an element of habit the more we do it the more we will continue to do it. For us it is very much like studying, you can do just enough to get by or you can take it seriously, push yourself and unlock more thoughts, ideas and possibilities.

Reflection is also fun, getting comfortable with who you are is a process that brings forth much joy and satisfaction. It can be tough facing your skeletons and mistakes but breaking the hold things have over us brings a new vigour and energy.

Reflection and Planning leads to Action

Through reflection and planning we can start to look at action. We start to appreciate the mistakes we have made and see them as lessons. With this we can learn about who we are, what we want and what drives us. Our planning becomes focused and clear as we know more about the landscape.

This process of awareness, reflection, planning and then action can be applied to many life stages like what to study, buying a home, getting married, having children, retiring and even planning for the afterlife.

Reflection is an ability we are all capable of learning. We need it to live differently, change our lives and plan for the future.
